A Massachusetts native, Burt Merriam earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theatre at West Virginia University where he
was introduced to children's theatre and puppetry.
His first foray into performing for children occurred as an undergraduate student when he created a one person hand puppet
show that toured to area schools.
Burt later earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre from Florida State University while serving as Tour Manager
and actor with the Asolo Children's Theatre Company. It was here he perfected the improvisational acting techniques that
now add spontaneity and warmth to his performances.
Following a stint as an assistant professor at Michigan State University, Merriam headed The Performing Art School of
Philadelphia and now serves as Director of the Hill School Center For The Arts, located on the campus of one of America's
great boarding schools.
Through it all, Burt continues to tour, sharing his unique style of theatre with family audiences.
